Poznań sits in traffic longer than any other city in Poland.
Some of that time isn't driving — it's circling for a spot. The city won't build new parking downtown, but in those same blocks garages sit empty because someone's taking the tram, or is out of town for the week.
Since 1 September 2025, downtown Poznań has been Poland's most expensive paid parking zone — pricier than Kraków and more than double Warsaw's rate. Meanwhile, a few blocks away, your neighbour's spot sits empty anyway: a full day there averages about €7, service fee included — less than three hours in the zone.

Parking in the Old Town: the city's top tariff and bollards on the square
The whole Stare Miasto district is the Centrum inner-city paid parking zone, with the highest rates in Poznań: ≈ €2.25 for the first hour, ≈ €2.60 for the second, ≈ €3.05 for the third and ≈ €2.25 for every hour after that. You pay Monday to Saturday, 8:00–20:00, so a Saturday trip into town costs too.
You can't drive onto the Old Market Square after 10:00. Since 1 October 2024 automatic bollards control access: from 6:00 to 10:00 they are down for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, and after that only city services and residents get in. You enter from Wielka Street and leave via Wodna, and the lanes around the square are closed to traffic (sign B-1).
Evening destinations include the opera, Teatr Wielki, at Fredry 9 and Teatr Polski at 27 Grudnia 8/10. Teatr Polski says it is about 15 minutes' walk from the main railway station, with three paid car parks nearby: on 27 Grudnia, on Ratajczaka and underground beneath plac Wolności. And if you have one in the centre, list it: in the city's most expensive zone even a plain courtyard spot is worth something.

In the Centrum zone you pay Monday to Saturday, and the first hour is ≈ €2.25. A regular spot at a neighbour's, rented by the month, replaces the daily sums. You can add a lease in the app.

Teatr Wielki on Fredry and Teatr Polski on 27 Grudnia are inside a zone that charges until 20:00. Check Rezu for a spot someone nearby has listed for that day, and book it before you leave home.

In the Centrum zone you pay on Saturdays too, 8:00 to 20:00. And you can't drive onto the Old Market Square after 10:00 anyway. Look on Rezu for a neighbour's spot for the day and walk.
